Most of the usual RP/BP crew seem to be saving themselves for this London 10000 thing tomorrow, so it was just me and DIYDiva in Bushy Park today. We had a brief discussion about where to go and what to wear (it was raining but not at all cold) and set off for the river. We went through Hampton Court and on to the towpath where we said hello to Sonia O’Sullivan who was running the other way. We like to mingle with elite Olympic athletes!
For the first mile or so we attempted to avoid the puddles but soon gave up on that as an impossible task and went straight through the middle. We ended up eith very wet feet, DIYD was also very muddy but I was strangely clean!
The plan was to do between 8 and 10 miles to prove that we were capable of the Dorking 10 next week. Specially me, as I haven’t run more than 6 miles since my marathon 7 weeks ago. I thought I would be really struggling at 10 minute mile pace, but we did 10 miles at 9.30 pace, chatting all the way with no problem at all. We did some awesome ranting, admired the rowing boys and the miles literally flew by.
It was a really good run and made me feel a lot better about my fitness (in that it made me realise I do still have some after all!) and much more confident about next week. We agreed we are both going to run Dorking naked ie no Garmin or watch, not *actually* naked you will be relieved to hear LOL.
I feel like I’m getting back in the zone now, pbs are still far in the distance but I will get there. Starting next week I’m getting back to 5 runs a week.
Thanks DIYD for a lovely run [smile]
